The territory of Chianti, with
is rolling hills and winding
roads is rich in natural beauty
in the center of Tuscany. You
can discover medieval small
hill towns, castles, churches,
monasteries, and villas which
attest to the talent and inventiveness
of man; the creativity of man
can be seen firsthand in the
blending of rows and rows of
vineyards, olive groves and
forests. The harmony created
is unique in the world. The
two principal roads traversing
Chianti suggest two different
ways of "reading"
the countryside.
Along the via Cassia, or alternatively
the faster superstrada Firenze-Siena,
you can relive the road of the
pilgrims on their medieval journey
from Northern Europe to Rome
passing by, as they did, parishes,
small boroughs, hostels and
abbeys.
The via Chiantigiana instead
is an agriculture road which
passes through vineyards and
olive groves on its winding
journey. In either case, the
roads offer visitors an unforgettable
passage through the seasonal
colors and atmosphere of the
seasons. There are numerous
side roads where you can wander
about discovering isolated parish
churches, silent testimony to
the rich history and art of
Chianti.
